Encyclopedias or dictionaries of literature will contain short summaries about many poets. Additionally, Introductions to poetry texts often contain historical timelines and biographical contexts. If you're stuck, searching for the name of the poet in the BORIS catalogue or a literature database like Literature Resource Centre may take you to more detailed information.
