A guide for faculty, staff, and students

License Information

Sofia, the Library catalogue, provides licensing information for electronic documents that the Library owns or provides access to. You can verify the permissions associated with a specific document by clicking on the Notes & License Terms link.

Please view this short video for the details on how to find licensing and permissions information.

Example #1:

a) Locate the document (e.g. journal article, ebook) in Sofia. In this example, you can find the Notes & License Terms link directly from the results page.

b) Click on the Notes & License Terms link to learn about the permissions associated with this item.

c) In the above example, this journal article may be printed, used in a course pack, uploaded or linked to in Moodle, or shared via Interlibrary loan.

Example #2:

a) In this example, the Notes & License Terms link is not found directly from the Sofia results page. Instead you must click on the document title to view the complete item record.

b) At the bottom of the item record, click on Access Online. You will notice the Notes & License Terms link in the second item in the list.

Please note: not all documents in Sofia include licensing permissions. For assistance with these documents please contact a Librarian.
