Evaluating Information

When evaluating information, especially websites, it is imperative that you adopt a skeptical approach so that you can decide for yourself whether or not you are going to trust the information you've found.  Don't believe everything you read.

Points to Consider:

1. Purpose -- Why was the site created? What's the motives?

2. Authority -- Who are site's author(s) and their credentials? Who is the sponsor? Should you trust these people?

3. Scope -- What is the coverage of the subject area? Is it comprehensive? Is it relevant?

4. Audience -- Who is the site designed for? Specialists? General public?

5. Format of the source -- Is the layout well organized and easy to follow?
