Copyright at Bishop's University: Moodle

A guide for faculty, staff, and students

Why Moodle?

The Library encourages faculty to use Moodle, reserves and e-reserves for their course materials for the following reasons:

1. Placing items on reserve, e-reserve, or uploading them to Moodle is almost always permitted by databases and publishers, and is therefore a more copyright compliant way to provide readings to students. For more information on how to verify permissions, refer to the License Information section.

2. Many databases and publishers do not permit the copying of their materials in course packs and, as such, many important articles and other items would not be legally available to students in a course pack format.

3. Placing items on reserve, e-reserve, or uploading them to Moodle is environmentally friendly as less paper is used in the process.

4. Using Moodle and reserves is an economical option for students.
